Parisian sophistication and whimsy were the eye catching vignettes at this years HOPE for Depression, designer showcase. Scott’s theme and focal point this year was cultivated by his many trips to Paris, where beauty feeds his soul and ignites his creativity. His Parisian living room sets the tone of uninhibited design by using bold choices, like the malachite fabric walls, green velvet upholstered sofas with animal print pillows, and modern art. He was truly thinking outside of the box…the entire room was encapsulated in a custom built shipping crate, further enhancing the concept “Direct From Paris”! Beautiful french furniture and lighting, such as the Louis XVI style chandelier and gilt wood consoles, reinforced the authenticity and elegance the room embodied.

The neighboring Parisian dining garden vignette was a great contrast to the raw wood shipping crate. Boxwood hedges, green grass floors, and huge bouquets of fresh flowers  transported you to a french garden. The use of fine export china and gold flatware against, french country furniture and linen table cloths brought formality and function together in a whimsical way. The room was magical and romantic.

The weekend was a success in bringing awareness and hope in the fight against depression. Scott would like to thank all the designers involved, vendors who so generously loaned furniture and accessories, The Jewelry, Art and Antique Show, and finally Audrey Gruss, HDRF founder.

Scott had a great time shooting this photo surrounded by the adorable stuffed animals! He used the large scale stuffed doggies as the center piece for every table at the Christmas Ball. Each dog and wreath were available for sale, but more importantly Peggy Adams Rescue League had real dogs available to be rescued and taken home the night of the ball.

Inspiration Through Travel…

Now is the time of year that Scott begins researching and cultivating his inspirational theme and decor for the annual Preservation Foundation Ball. These photos illustrate how Scott’s trip to Venice, Italy helped to authenticate and inspire his design intention for the 2011 Preservation Ball. His love and experience of travel is an essential key component in his decorating. He implements the essence, culture, and beauty of the wonderful cities around the world into his design. He is excited to begin the process again for the Preservation Foundation Ball of 2013, here is a clue…he will be in Moscow, Russia this Christmas!

Red, White and Blue!

As usual the food and decor were perfectly paired. Lobster crackers and bibs helped make the evening feel casual and inviting. Such details as the blue porcelain vases filled with red apple topiaries and porcelain Chinese figures with cranberry strung necklaces were the special touches that made this party unique. The company was great and the evening went on without a hitch!

The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach is very near and dear to Scott’s heart. As a Trustee on the Board of Directors, the annual dinner dance is a way for Scott to contribute and implement his creative design schemes. This year’s décor and color inspirations were silver, lavender, and of course pearls in honor of the Palm Beach Preservation Foundation’s 30^th year anniversary! And who doesn’t love pearls! The room was entirely draped in silvery grey fabric, the tables had silver linens with silver palm trees and pearl encrusted coconuts as the centerpieces, which were surrounded by votives and conch shells filled with pearl necklaces. Filling the room was perfectly placed purple lights casting a very romantic glow across the Ball Room. The overall effect spoke Old Hollywood Glamour. What a night!

Yellow (HDRF’s signature color) and Blue (Scott’s signature color) creates a fresh and lively ambiance at the prestigious Club Colette, to honor one of Scott’s closest friends and the great mission of HDRF in which she founded.

Scott’s vision to use blue and white porcelain vases truly showcased the yellow tulips, jonquils, forsythia, and lemon topiaries which were refreshing and well suited for the “hopeful” occasion.  At the center of the room stood a 10 foot tall Metal Palm Tree with twinkling white lights, perfect for Emily Bergl (an award winning Broadway performer) to move around while singing her way between the round tables decorated with yellow table cloths, fresh flowers and blue and white porcelain. Around the perimeter of the room hung large scale pictures of blue and white vases printed on a jet black ground, which felt bold and modern. The décor was fanciful, the food was divine, the speeches were heartfelt, and the night was a success!

Yellow has proven to be the color of choice for the month of February!

Scott (Palm Beach Chairman of HDRF Arts Committee) pulls from the Hope for Depression Research Foundations color palette of cheerful yellow and “cool” grey to inspire our Living Room Showcase at the Annual Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Exhibit.  The colors are both traditional and modern. The yellow and grey artfully compliment the Mid Century shaped sofas and club chairs, which are in perfect juxtaposition to the beautiful antique pieces, such as the  Philip and Kelvin LaVerne etched bronze and enamel coffee table and the 19^th Century Russian inspired, Empire mahogany and gilt cabinet. The room takes on an ease of sophistication and comfort through the use of Alex Guofeng Cao’s modern art Chromogenic Print of Warhol (which is actually numerous miniature pictures of Mao Tse Tung manipulated to create one large portrait of Andy Warhol) and the infused sense of warmth created by such details as the fireplace vignette and accessories like the caramel and tan animal fur throw. The room was a great representation of Scott’s innate design skills while incorporating the essence of the HDRF color scheme.

Most importantly Scott is proud to be part of a great foundation such as HDRF (founded by Audrey Gruss), and feels strongly connected and inspired by the cause to help aware and educate people around the world about depression.
